Message Well I have actually been away from work on several occasions. It's been very mixed and a lot of ups and downs. The first time I had a break was when I had my daughter. It was bless. I loved my work. However when returning obviously a lot of things had changed. Lessons learned: negotiate flexible work before you step back into your role or look for other more suitable roles in your company. The second time we went travelling. It has been great. I'm now back in London realising what an amazing city it is and I love being back at work again. It also helps that my daughter is older and that she loves her school. If I could do things differently, I'm not so sure I would. London truly is great. Working conditions well I'd like to think that they are changing for the better. There are so many great people working to ensure that conditions for families get a little bit easier. I also know that nothing lasts forever and things change. It helps an awful lot if you keep a positive attitude (if someone had said that to me in my most difficult times I probably would have hit them) but it does. I would also encourage people to talk and ask for help. I noticed from my time in the States that people actually care and look after each other better (yes!). I'm thinking I should create a group for parents where we could swap details, help each other with pick ups and afternoon/ evening cares in the neighbourhood I live in. And have chaos in your home one afternoon a week taking turns... The kids would have fun and you'd really get to know your next door neighbour...

I think that is a great idea to build a network of parents in your local area, and if key relationships are built this can even help with cover over school holidays.
