Message I had high hopes for my return to the office earlier this year after the birth of my 3rd child but it quickly became apparent that a number of my partners were less than impressed that I had taken time out. Some simply ignored the fact that I had been away or the reason for my absence, others made it clear that they felt that they had been left in the lurch when I left (notwithstanding detailed planning and buy in for said plans at the time). There has been barely a spark of the collegiate behaviour that was once central to my team and I have been left to seek to reignite my practice alone. It is an incredibly dispiriting experience and a dreadful example to the young women in our team who had previously seen me as a decent role model - first female partner in the team for many years. It really should be possible to work more cohesively in order to achieve a better outcome both for the returner and for the business. Regrettably, I think there is little chance of that now happening although I am still trying!
