Update on first Canary Wharf event

Thank you so much to all of you who came to our first Canary Wharf event last Thursday. It was a fantastic turnout and I thought Ruby McGregor-Smith gave a wonderfully honest and insightful overview of her experiences as a working mother, including the reasons behind her career break following the birth of her second child, and her return to the workplace afterwards. Thank you also to State Street for hosting and providing such a great venue – and lunch! After all the event planning I certainly was happy to have a long weekend at home with family, and now back at work this week its full on again with a large pipeline of research projects, and of course our next Citymothers event. We have just opened registration for our 9 May meeting, hosted by SJ Berwin in the City of London. We will be joined by Karen Mattison MBE, founder of Timewise, and Nicola Kerr, senior employment partner at SJ Berwin, who will both be speaking on the subject of flexible working. Karen will talk about her own experiences of flexible working, sharing practical tips as to how you can work flexibly and still advance your career, and covering the importance of having more ‘visible’ role models who work flexibly; whilst Nicola will cover the legal framework. We think this promises to be a useful and practical session and hope to see lots of you there! We are also working on two other initiatives which we hope to publicise later this month…watch this space!
