Message I took two months off at the end of my Wife's maternity leave to spend some quality time with our son. It was nice to do it later on once the initial fuss was over and my wife was getting ready to go back to work. It's crazy how much you can miss out on when you just work.

Coming back to work was a bit of a challenge. Firstly having two months off and then throwing yourself back to a five day week is a shift change from home life. Also before i'd left I'd been leading a team but on my return, there was someone else taking on that role and it was sort of assumed that we would just do it together. It felt me feeling rather displaced and unhappy.

I wouldn't change the decision I made to take the leave, but it's certainly harder for those who 'break the norm'. Number two is due this year and I will not be able to do the same, but this is mainly due to not getting paid for taking any leave which I cannot afford to do this time around.
