Message Employer took me off any high profile jobs or bid projects estimated longer than a month as soon as I announced pregnancy. Treated as the assistant rather than the manager. Cited budget cuts as reason for not providing cover in my absence. Tried "keeping in touch" but no response from boss or team. Only received corporate circulars, nothing to do with team projects. 6mths in to leave formally requested return on part-time flexible basis. Discussions repeatedly delayed by firm so was unable to make arrangements for childcare not knowing what was required. Called at home night before meeting to be told we'd be discussing my redundancy, not my flexible working arrangements. Returned to only suitable job available (full time mat leave covering 2 part-time roles, one of which had resigned) in hope of job share on mum's return, but was paid less than when I'd started 15yrs previously as a PA! Based round the corner from my old team, who treated me like a leper. Had to share their photocopier. Absolutely soul destroying experience. Boss tutted if I was 5 mins late and when i asked to leave 10 mins early in lieu of shorter lunch break to ensure I reached nursery in time to not incur late charges, it was made clear this was seen as taking advantage - after 15 years loyalty and extremely hard work to the firm. Quit to take redundancy & find a work-life balance after 5 years for sake of sanity. Best decision I ever made.
