Message One piece of advice that I was provided before taking maternity leave was to thinking about how I wanted to return to work to ensure that the company was able to work with me to help me return on a basis that worked for me. Whilst off for the first 3 months, I found that I was missing the interaction with the work place, and so decided to come back to work 1 day a week to work on a specific client project with whom I had worked previously. The company were really happy to have my experience on the deal, and were really supportive providing a strong team to execute the detail allowing me to give real strategic advice. This meant that I was going to be able to stay relevant to the market I work in without having a real break whilst on maternity. I returned back to work full time - but working flexibly around my child care arrangements. I regularly ask my team whether this works for them as well as the wider business. The movement to work flexibly is a two way thing. Being respectful of the impact that your decision to work flexibly can have on others is really important to making things work in the longer run for you.

Did you managing this through Keeping in touch days? I thought if you return to work part-time, that ends maternity leave.
