Message I returned to work quite recently to a front office, client facing role after 10 months of mat leave. My manager, the firm and my team have been extremely supportive, much to my surprise, as the firm has had no real precedent of successive return to work for front office women on mat leave. I was able to negotiate flexible full time working hours meaning I can see my little one more often than I otherwise would. The negotiations got sticky with HR at certain points but having a fully supportive manager (a working father) really helped to smoothe things over. It's still early days but I feel very positive about how it's going so far. Advice: don't be afraid to ask for what could work for you, even if your firm has no precedent of offering what you want. If the circumstances are right, it can all work in your favour!
