Message I took 11 months maternity leave with my first child and 9 months with my second. After the first, I came back part time 3 days a week. Although the partners were generally supportive, I found this ultimately didn't work well. I wasn't around enough to run my own matters and couldn't do transactions. After my second maternity leave I came back 4 days a week which worked very well. I had a full/normal range of work. The partners were again supportive, and I found one of the older, male, childless partners was one of the biggest supporters. Overall though, working in law and having children is a challenge. You need to be very organised at home and your partner also needs to pull their weight. (Maximum respect to those who do it as a single parent.) We had a nanny which was ideal - no last minute drama over who would stay home if the children were ill etc. My husband and I shared the "pick up" duties so I could work late when needed or attend client functions. Still a lot of logging in from home and late nights, and coupled with two small children that was exhausting and took a toll on me. That goes with being in law though, so not really something that could be fixed.
Overall, the return from maternity leave and support while I was part time was good.

Sorry for the direct question but did you pay get pro-rated for 3 days? This has happened to me but I hate the fact I am now paid in effect less than a trainee with the same repsonsibilities I had before just spread over 3 days. Also less likely to get bonus etc which would also be pro-rated so it's a massive jump down. Any ideas how I can ask for more, does this seem unreasonable?
