Message I have to say that I have had nothing but a positive experience around both my maternity leaves. I appreciate I have been very lucky and have had full support of my Manager who did not change and who has been my Manager for over 5 years. However, I would say to people about to embark on maternity leave to bear in mind that sometimes careers in the City are not reflective of 'the norm'. Outside of the office, you often meet other new Mothers whose careers are very different with very different expectations. Taking 6 months in IB is considered 'the norm' but outside of IB it is considered very short. Working through maternity leave (dialing into meetings/ going into the office..etc) in IB is also considered the norm but again, within the NCT network or coffee mornings this might not be the case. Others branded me'too career focused'..etc but actually I found it much easier coming back to work having kept in touch throughout my leaves, although this may not be for everyone. I am a career-loving parent and I love my career as well as my children and I do believe it's possible to have both. (Although mine are still just 3 and 1 I totally accept that things may change for me as they get older)
