Message Working as a lawyer in an investment bank there were not too many of the increasing number of women who took the full amount (12 months statutory plus 1 month holiday rolled together) twice. I did. I had worked for my employer for 5 years the first time in 2008. I returned for a year. Then I went out again in 2010. Both times I used the KIT days which were fantastic. The firm had an excellent programme including a day's conference during your leave and a buddying system for maternity returners. I kept in touch with my team but only as much as I wanted to - they were sensitive about telling me the big stuff like hiring and firing (essential) but did not try to drag me back in workwise. I had been full time and returned full time. I had nothing but a positive experience and was promoted on my second return. However, the next and final big promotion, five years later on, proved impossible due to many many reasons. I considered myself to be more confident and better at managing time and priorities after having children. However, I was also less willing to put up with the politics and less willing to work really long hours or weekends.
