Dealing with illness & updates

Well, last week for me certainly exemplified many of the challenges that come with being a working mother. It started with the nanny calling in sick- for the whole week -  at 5.45am on Monday morning, precisely half an hour before she was due to arrive for the day Her text arrived just as I was catching up on early morning emails and running through in my head the long list of things that needed doing in the office that day. Fortunately, by 7.30am I had mother-in-law on the way to look after baby girl so I could at least work properly from home, and at 9am was on the phone to nanny agencies finding backup for the rest of the week. Our temp nanny arrived Tuesday and proved a life saver, however then baby girl developed a rotten cough and cold. So now, on Sunday, we are on our 5th consecutive rubbish night of sleep - her cough is only really an issue when she lies down it seems - and husband and I completely knackered, he particularly because he is still catching up working 2 weeks solid with no weekend, and me particularly beause, well, I'm 20 weeks pregnant (a milestone I was very happy to reach on Friday) and baby girl not sleeping is proving a real struggle for me - unfortunately I'm not someone who can function on less than 6-7 hrs sleep a night. Anyway, baby girl seems better today, and we already have a temp nanny lined up for Monday morning in case regular nanny calls in sick again, so here's to a better week. This week, of course, sees our first Canary Wharf event - on Thursday we will be at the offices of State Street for our lunchtime event, where we will be joined by Ruby McGregor-Smith CBE. Its shaping up to be a great event and over 140 of you have registered to attend, so feeling very excited to meet as many of you as I can come Thursday! Citymothers now has over 350 members and we have a number of great developments pending that I can't wait to share with you all. If I don't see you Thursday, have a lovely Easter break.
